(Diatomaceous Earth): Micro-Cell (filter aid) is manufactured from Diatomaceous Earth (skeletal remains of single celled plants called Diatoms). When diatoms die, their organic matter decomposes, leaving behind skeleton structure, which settles to form Diatomaceous Earth (Diatomite is also called "Diatomaceous earth") Diatomite deposit. Micro-cel is equivalent to Hyflo Super-cel of Celite Corporation, U.S.A. Diatomite is a fine white powder, resembling a weed in geometry and is 90 % void, 10 % solid fibre.

The Characteristics, which make Diatomaceous Earth a Filter Medium can thus be seen. When one imagines a cake or crust of small, rigid porous particles, piled one upon the other to form a fine screen, being placed in the path of a flowing stream of liquid. The openings in the screen are large enough to permit the flow of liquid but small enough to obstruct the passage of virtually the smallest particle of foreign material.

An efficient, economical filter aid must:
(1) Have rigid, intricately shaped, porous, individual particles;
(2) Form a highly permeable, stable, incompressible filter cake;
(3) Remove even the finest solids at high rated of flow; and
(4) Be chemically inert and essentially insoluble in the liquid being filtered. Diatomite meets these requirements due to the wide variety of intricately shaped particles and inert composition which makes it practically insoluble in most of the liquids. It has virtually no effect on the Odour and taste of any liquid filtered through it.
